THIS is a mangrove. This is what a jungle gym means. Imagine spending a day working in here. It's actually a lot of fun climbing all the roots, because they're positioned perfectly for you to climb all the way up. But when you add the squashy mud, the sandflies, the rain, my clumsiness, the alive-looking-but-actually-very-much-dead-and-cannot-hold-your-weight roots, and the incoming tide, you can't help but wonder how crazy mangrove scientists must be to base their entire academic careers on rhizophora forests.

Snorkeling attire with stinger suits over our wet suits since there were jellyfish and blue bottles in the water that day.
Our first snorkel! This was just a test run and it was also literally an hour after we got onto the island. The waves were super choppy so we were trying not to get pulled out (I was getting pushed up against the pole), but we were also super excited.
